CHARADE

Nina's dad was an officer who gave his life to protect the weak. When Nina was in middle school, she got into a fight with some students who sneaked into the professor's room to photocopy the test. Later, the principal reported to her dad, but instead of getting angry with her, he praised his daughter for standing up for what was right. She grew up idolizing him and believing in justice.

Cut to several years later, Nina is a cop fresh out of the academy. On her first day of patrol, she and her partner, Fernando, pay an unexpected visit to the ringmaster of a carnival. When Nina asks the reason for that detour, Fernando simply replies: "Today is your training day, isn't it?"
By "training" he means extorting money from the circus in exchange for "protection". She later reports what she witnessed to her lieutenant, but she is quickly dismissed with a "Keep your place, newbie." Disheartened, she has no choice but to keep her head low.

Until, about a year later, Nina stops in front of a street performer juggling with eight balls. As soon as he sees her, however, all the balls fall to the ground as he points at her: "I know you! We paid you, you were supposed to protect us!"

Confused at what happened, Charade decides to call Fernando to confront him on what she witnessed.
